Several levy-payers have contacted us about changes to car parking charges in Galashiels and the potential impact on businesses, customers and town centre footfall.

We wrote to Scottish Borders Council’s Chief Executive in May, asking the Council to reconsider its approach, defer the changes and give greater consideration to the wider impact on the town centre.

Alongside Galashiels Community Council, we continue to raise these concerns and explore alternative approaches with the Council. This includes asking them to consider the decriminalisation of on-street parking and the potential for time-limited disc parking, which could make it easier for customers to access local businesses.

The revised charges relate to Council-operated car parks, while enforcement of on-street parking restrictions remains the responsibility of Police Scotland.

There is no quick or easy solution, but we will continue to make the case for practical approaches that support our town centre and its businesses.

Your feedback helps us make that case. If you have views or examples of how the changes are affecting your business or customers, please contact manager@bidforgalashiels.com
