This Easter, BID for Galashiels delivered a programme of activity designed to bring more people into the town centre and encourage them to explore more of what Galashiels has to offer.

Activity was delivered across key locations, working alongside the Heartland Market in Market Square and activity at the Little Art Hub Workshops on Channel Street. This joined-up approach helped create movement throughout the town rather than focusing on a single area.

What this achieved

  • Encouraged visitors to move between different parts of the town

  • Linked Easter activity with existing attractions like the Heartland Market and Little Art Hub

  • Increased visibility for businesses across multiple locations

  • Helped visitors discover more shops, cafés and services during their visit

This meant that people coming for one activity were naturally introduced to others. A win for visitors, a win for other event organisers, and importantly, a win for businesses.

Why this matters

Events are a key part of the BID for Galashiels business plan because they:

  • Drive footfall into the town centre

  • Encourage longer dwell time

  • Create more opportunities for customer spend

  • Support the overall strength and perception of the town

By creating reasons to visit and explore, events help build momentum, strengthen the town centre, and support businesses of all sizes.

We will continue to build on this approach, delivering activity that brings people into Galashiels and encourages them to make the most of everything the town has to offer.
