Creating a Safe, Secure and Welcoming Environment

ree

This month, Mags joined Scottish Borders Council and Police Scotland for full-walk through of the entire BID area - from one end of the town to the other.

We examined everything, from litter and empty units to signage and overall cleanliness, as well as the general atmosphere of the town. It was a chance to see, on the ground, what’s working well and where improvements are needed most.

We recognise that this is a significant concern for everyone. A safe, clean, and welcoming environment isn’t just about appearance – it’s crucial to attracting more visitors, supporting local businesses, and boosting foot traffic.

There’s a lot to do, but this walk was the first step towards a clear, focused plan. We’re now developing a strategy that pinpoints exactly what’s needed and how we can work with our partners to make it happen. There won’t be overnight fixes, but change is coming – and this is where it begins.

We’re committed to bringing positive, lasting improvements to Galashiels, and we’ll keep you updated as the work progresses.
