Tangled Galashiels, the town’s growing fibre festival, returns on 29th and 30th May and is expected to bring thousands of visitors into Galashiels once again. Now in its fourth year, the event has become an important date in the calendar for many local businesses, with shops, cafés and hospitality venues often seeing a significant increase in footfall across the festival weekend.

Following feedback from BID levy payers in previous years, we recognised that visitor movement through the town did not always flow evenly across the town centre. In response, BID for Galashiels has worked directly with the festival organisers and the Heartland Market C.I.C to introduce an additional attraction within Market Square across the weekend.

This one off Heartland Market, delivered in partnership with BID for Galashiels, has been designed to help create a stronger circular route around the town centre, encouraging visitors to move between festival venues, Market Square and surrounding businesses throughout the day.

It is a great example of partnership working in action and part of the BID’s wider commitment to ensuring major events deliver the strongest possible benefit for businesses across the whole town centre.
