Town of Culture & Tour de France: Opportunities for Galashiels

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who has shown such enthusiasm and support for Galashiels’ Town of Culture application. The response from businesses, organisations and the wider community has been incredibly encouraging. The working group continues to meet regularly and is actively exploring many of the ideas and opportunities highlighted through the initial consultation process.

Alongside this work, attention has also turned towards another significant opportunity for the town, the arrival of the Tour de France in Galashiels on Friday 2nd of July 2027 as part of the historic UK Grand Départ.

BID for Galashiels will be attending the upcoming Scottish Borders Council information event on behalf of BID zone businesses, although businesses and members of the community are also very welcome to attend directly themselves. Both the Town of Culture bid and the Tour de France represent major opportunities to showcase Galashiels on a national and international stage. BID for Galashiels is committed to working proactively with partners including the Community Council, Energise Galashiels Trust and others to ensure the town is well positioned to maximise the benefits for local businesses, residents and the wider community.

These opportunities require ambition, collaboration and forward planning, and we look forward to continuing to work with businesses and partners across the town as plans progress.
